Does summer affect how you work in your media ministry? If so, how, and what kinds of things help stabilized the ministry during these few months?

"Summer" is what I like to refer to as a "Hallmark Issue". People need redemption, encouragement and Truth as much in this 'season' as any other time of the year. The question reveals an approach to ministry that is shaped more by cultural considerations than by Purpose or Mission. The attendance patterns in the Evangelical church in America have seen dramatic shifts in the past 20 years. It is now a fact that if a local church has 500 'regular participants' 40% of them are absent on any given Lord's Day. This issue reaches well beyond the question of media technology & personnle.

Well, we try to keep services simple so that our volunteers get something of a break over the summer. So the season does affect our media and its use.

That's a good question. Our numbers dip in the summer, but we were pleased to see that last summer they didn't drop as much as they had previously. That's undoubtedly the result of several factors, but one rallying point is a summer patriotic musical celebration that involves significant media. Using video clips and PowerPoint slides and stills, we were able to give what was a standard, average, "good" presentation an extra UMPH to attract occasional summer attenders as well as encouraging them to invite guests.
